Fundação Getulio Vargas was presented and formally appointed as a Consultative Observer of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) during the 22nd Ordinary Meeting of the CPLP, held in Brasília on July 20. The meeting included the participation of public representatives from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste.

“The status of CPLP Consultative Observer grants a privileged strategic positioning to FGV among Portuguese Language Countries. At first, we will have five chairs across major CPLP thematic commissions, which will provide us a solid basis and a privileged position to secure new business opportunities in Portuguese-speaking countries”, said professor Marcus Vinicius Rodrigues, who leads the project.

FGV’s process to obtain the status of Consultative Observer of the CPLP began more than a year ago, involving the entire staff of the Center for Cooperation with Africa and Portugal (NuCAP) of FGV’s International Affairs Division (DINT).

The Council of Ministers of the CPLP regularly gathers once a year and whenever requested by two thirds of the Member States. The Council of Ministers answers to the CPLP’s Conference of the Heads of State and Government, to which it presents its respective reports. The deliberations of the Council of Ministers are made by consensus.
