Held for the first time in Brazil, the BRICS Youth Dialogue is an initiative of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that aims to engage young people in discussions on strategic issues aligned with the BRICS agenda. The activity was part of the UAE's expanded participation in the bloc's Leaders' Summit, reflecting the country's commitment to strengthening multilateral ties and promoting intergenerational dialogue among its members.
The Brazilian edition took place on July 3, at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro, bringing together 40 students from four Brazilian universities. The meeting focused on the future of international cooperation, sustainability, and the role of youth in shaping the global agenda. Twelve students from the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) were selected by the International Affairs Division (FGV DINT) to represent the institution, actively participating in debates and exchanges of experiences.
The session was led by His Excellency Saeed Al Hajeri, Deputy Minister for Economic and Commercial Affairs and UAE Sherpa to BRICS, and by the UAE Ambassador to Brazil, Saleh Al Suwaidi. In his speech, Minister Al Hajeri emphasized that the event reflects “the United Arab Emirates' deep conviction that multilateral cooperation must include the voices, ideas, and aspirations of the younger generations.” According to him, “young people are not only potential leaders, but also key partners in building the urgent solutions that the world currently demands.”
Verônica Arantes, a student in the Social Sciences program at FGV, described her participation as a unique professional experience: "The meeting provided a privileged space for networking and allowed us to understand, in practice, how diplomatic relations work. We had the chance to talk directly with the United Arab Emirates ambassador to Brazil and ask constructive questions about the country's international activities," she said.
